Why turn-based RPGs quietly belong on phones
Turn-based combat and mobile screens are a better match than people admit. You can pause, think, and act with a single tap — no twitch reflexes, no cramped virtual sticks fighting your thumbs.
Playing Ember of the Ninth Vale reminded me of this. Its battles never punish you for putting the phone down mid-fight, and the autosaves mean a interrupted commute costs nothing.
The trick good developers use is speeding up animations and keeping menus shallow. When a game respects that you might only have five minutes, the turn-based format suddenly feels ideal rather than old-fashioned.
If you dismissed mobile RPGs years ago, it's worth another look. The best ones are quietly excellent.
